The Interesting Game of Bocce

Bocce is a popular sport which involves a collection of balls. This game is played by 2 competitors or two competing teams. It can be played anywhere with an unhindered surface and level. This sport belongs to the boules family of games wherein the balls are rolled or tossed toward a target ball.

Bocce balls are usually prepared of metal or different types of plastic. Different the lawn balls, the bocce balls are found to be sphere-shaped and include no integral bias. The game is played with 8 large balls and 1 smaller ball which is also called pallino. This game can be played with two, four and eight players.

The bocce balls are divided evenly between the total numbers of players. You will get to notice that the bocce ball set includes balls with many different designs or colors. Ideally, every bocce player will use the balls from the set which are unique in color or design from all the other balls in play.  This is useful in distinguishing the bocce balls from those of other players.

Bocce is a traditional sport played in Italy. The game has gained extensive popularity all over Europe and further abroad. Today, the game of bocce is played in countries like Australia, the United States and also in Eastern Europe. Some of the most popular locations where bocce is commonly played would definitely include beaches and lawns. Also, the competition play usually take place on asphalt courts or dirt which measure 27.5 meters in the total length and about 2.5 to 4 meters in total width.

In the game of bocce, a player is selected at a random. A game of bocce can also be conducted between two teams of 2, 3 or 4. The player or side chosen randomly has to throw the pallino which is a smaller target ball from one end of the playing zone 16 feet in length and ending at 8.2 feet from the far end of the court. Each player attempts to move the balls as close as possible to the pallino. This is because the points are usually awarded for balls which are closer than that of the opponent’s ball with points, ranging from 7 to 13 as the winning bout.

The side or the player which first endeavored to place the pallino is offered the option to bowl first. Once the first bowl takes place, the other side or player has the option to bowl. From there on, the player or the side which does not have the ball closest to the pallino gets the chance to bowl, up until one side or the other has used their 4 balls.

The underarm action is common in the game of bocce. As a matter of fact, players are allowed to throw the ball in the air with the use of the underarm action. This is used to knock either the pallino or jack in order to attain a more favorable position. The team including the closest ball to the pallino is the team which can score points in any kind of frame.
